New Thing #5 - Sunday Fun Day 1.0

Today I hosted the first ever Heather Jones Sunday Fun Day a.k.a. the Slip 'n Slide party. Again, I'm not sure if we ever actually owned a slip 'n slide growing up, but I have vague memories of sliding on one. It could have been at a cousin's or a friend's house. But, today, we had an adult only slip 'n slide party on a kiddie-sized dual racing slip 'n slide. Definitely the coolest slip 'n slide I've ever been on! From now on, I'll refer to it as SnS since that's way easier to type.

My friends Betsy and Greg joined me along with my neighbor Brian, and two other friends Cassie and Shaggy. We started around 1:30 and it was perfect sliding weather. Hot and sunny but not miserably hot. The SnS was Betsy's, a housewarming gift from Greg that she had yet to bust out at her own house. It was a "racing" version with room for two people to go at a time. Well, actually I should say, room for two kids. We ignored the huge Warning label that said "Not for Adult Use." Who reads warning labels?! It had a sprinkler system straight down the middle to help wet each side and an inflatable barrier at the end. I'm sure that barrier will stop a 6 year old kid, but it didn't do much with 6 adults barreling down it! It also had a removable inflatable flag pole that you're supposed to grab as you end. First one to grab the flag wins. I'm proud to say the flag made it about halfway through the day before it bit the dust with a huge hole in the middle. Cassie and Brian take that honor. We tried to figure out our stride so we didn't stop before the end or shoot off too fast. However, most of us slid ride out the end knocking the plug out of the inflatable ring. I don't know how many times we had to air it back up. There was a decent sized water hole at the end where we all ended up each time (which was full of mud and scratchy grass!). I'm glad we had the dual version since it was way more fun sliding with someone each time.

It's also amazing how sharp wet grass is. I look like I came out on the losing end of a fight with a house cat. I have scratches all over my body, along with a few bruises, mosquito bites (I stopped counting at 20) and a sore shoulder. The shoulder injury came from a few of us trying to outdo each other with some crazy sliding tricks. I nearly mastered the 180, but I usually got hung up around the 130 degree point. I blame it on the short available sliding distance. I remember these things being so much longer!!

We also enjoyed a few games of washers (Greg, Shaggy & Cassie were pretty good!), some BBQ, and some relaxation time in the pool. We had 5 of us chilling in the pool at one time, and we probably could have fit 1 or 2 more. Best $25 purchase I've made yet!

All in all, it was a great way to spend a gorgeous summer Sunday afternoon. Can't wait for the next one, though we've decided we're going to buy a single SnS to put at the beginning of the current one to make it twice as long. Can't. Wait.

Me and Betsy on our trial run!

I'm not really sure what I'm doing here, but that could be when I hurt my shoulder!

Greg took the lead this time!

Cassie totally cheated!

Betsy is refilling the barrier that Cassie broke!

Greg tried it feet first!

And then feet up.

I tried to copy him.

I always ended up on my back or completely spun around.
(Oh, and no need to adjust your monitors, I really am THAT white...)

See? Backwards again:

Brian, Greg, Cassie & Betsy

Chillin in the Pool!

**Update: It's two days later now and I'm STILL sore all over from the SnS...abs, quads, biceps...you name it, it's sore. I never knew it could be such a workout!! Next time, I should probably stretch first. ;-)**
