New Thing #7 - Par-tay in the Park

Tonight I went to "Parties in the Park", a free event held the 2nd Wednesday of every month during the summer. It's a free party in Shaw Park in Clayton (St. Louis). They have live music, lots of beer tents, a few margarita and martini tents, and lots of young sexy singles. I think there were some food tents as well, but we never seemed to end up near them. There's also some random old guys creepin' around, but I'll get to that later.

I went with my friend Betsy who works right next the park, as well as her coworker Chris, and another of her coworkers, Simone. It was quite possibly the perfect weather for a night out at a park. Definitely not normal mid-August weather.

Me & Bets enjoying a few ice cold BL's:

For those of you not living in St. Louis, it's pretty much just like a small town. And because of that, I run into people all the time that I would never expect to run into. Case in point, about 5 minutes after we got there, I saw a guy I had dated briefly about this time last year. What are the odds? He lives 5 minutes from me, but yet I see him at a monthly event 20 minutes from where I live. Good times. I didn't say hi to him, but I did notice him checking me out a few times...ahhh...vindication. ;-)

Anyways, the live band was good, they are a local cover band called Groove Thang. They played a lot of classic oldies, along with some current tunes. They had a few random drunk women grooving along with them throughout the night, and that was pretty entertaining to watch. I'm all for people getting up and dancing, regardless of what they look like, but even I can't not chuckle when I see people with no rhythm grooving to their own beat. Awesome.

One of the best things about events like this is the people watching. You can't get away without seeing at least one person that causes you to do a double take. And this is that guy.

I tried to be subtle and "include him" in the picture of Betsy and Chris (see top pic), but Chris decided to be more bold and go in for the zoom shot. Granted, he was pretending to be taking a pic of me and Betsy at the time, but he did do a much better job than I did.

From what Betsy told me, this guy goes to all the Parties in the Park, as well as the Parties in the Plaza (at Westport), and Lord only knows where else. Usually there are short spandex shorts involved, as you can see in the image. Everyone needs a pair of sparkly safety orange shorty shorts to round out your wardrobe (you can't tell from the picture, but there was definite sparkles/shimmer going on with the material). Add a fanny pack, a tie-dyed beret and some kind of fairy t-shirt, and you've got yourself a winning combination. I will be adding all items above to my wardrobe, stat. Look for it at the next fall fashion show.

I know you wanted to see the back view... You're welcome. ;-) And yes, he was getting his flirt on with some "young" ladies at a nearby table.

We had a good time, just chilling out, listening to some music, enjoying a few cold beers and people watching. I'll definitely go back again, hopefully before the summer is over, and next time, we'll have to go when we're not dragging around a married man (Chris's wife couldn't join us.) That kind of puts a damper on any game we thought we might have. lol
