New Thing #22 - Dream Journal

Because of the holiday this week, I decided to do something simple yet fun. So, I'm keeping a journal of my dreams this week and hope to "decode" them a bit. Now, if you know me at all, you know that I have the craziest whacked out dreams possible. There are usually pieces of my dreams that include people, things or events that I've experienced that day or recently. They also change mid dream from one thing to another. I'm sure there is some underlying symbolism, but for the most part, I usually just wake up thinking WTF?! So, I'll give a summary of my dreams from each night (at least as much as I can remember), followed by some decoding I found on internet. I'm not sure it's very accurate, but it will at least be fun!

Sunday night, 11/23/08:
**I was at a wedding shower being thrown for two of my friends. While inside the house, I found my other friend's cell phone with my stuff. Somehow I knew that I had taken the phone, but I wasn't really sure why. (I mean who steals a phone, honestly?) I felt really bad for taking the phone for nearly a week and not telling him. I decided I should probably leave the shower and return the phone. The time of 8:30 pm kept showing up in my dream that that was the time I was going to be returning it. In my dream, I kept thinking that it wasn't too late in the evening to be going to his house. After about an hour or so, I figured out what to wear (apparently it's important to dress appropriately when returning a phone you stole!) In my dream, the phone looked exactly like my other friend's phone (a Blackberry with a lime green cover). I don't remember the specifics, but it took me quite awhile to get to my friend's house. Once I was there, I apologized profusely, but he wasn't angry with me.
---According to the online dream dictionary, a cell phone dream means: to see or use a cell phone in your dream, indicates that you are being receptive to new information. It also represents your mobility. To dream that you lost your cell phone, represents a lack of communication. You have lost touch with some aspect of your feelings or your Self. If you find a cell phone, then it symbolizes reconnection and reopened communication. (So, does losing a phone and then finding it mean I keep opening and closing communication?!)

Monday night, 11/24/08:
**The first dream I had early in the night and wrote down when I woke up at 2:30. My notes were a bit difficult to read the next morning! I was working at a huge grocery store that was so large, it required me to ride a Segway to get around. (I've had a few Segway dreams since I took my tour...interesting) I was helping people shop for pumpkins, but there weren't any good ones. All of them were old or bruised, etc. (Earlier that day I was at the grocery store looking for apples, and most of them looked like the pumpkins in my dream.)
--The dictionary says this about pumpkins: to see a pumpkin in your dream, implies openness and your receptiveness to new ideas and experiences. A pumpkin is also symbolic of the female sexuality. Alternatively, it may relate to the popular fairy tale of Cinderella where a carriage turns back into a pumpkin. In this regard, it may represent some situation in which time is running out. (Great.)
**The second dream I wrote down after I woke up in the morning. My roommate from college, Lois, was mowing the yard. Her name was Betty in my dream though. There were four people following behind her, me and three other friends from college. We were following 2x2 because there was no room to go around her. It was taking her forever to mow and we were getting really aggravated b/c we couldn't go around her. The next thing we knew, she had cuts and scrapes all over her face and arms, but we didn't know why. We didn't see her get hit by anything.
--To dream that you are mowing the lawn, suggests that you need to do some major reevaluation of your goals and life path. (Does it count if I'm not the one mowing?!)
**I had an extra dream in between the snooze buttons. In my dream, I remembered being frustrated because I couldn't remember my dreams. (I remember reading a website about ways to remember your dreams and one of them said to say "I will remember my dreams" before going to bed...maybe that triggered this little dream!)

Tuesday night, 11/25/08:
**The first dream is from 4:00 am when I woke up to go the bathroom. I was parasailing with my friend Susie, but I wasn't strapped into the harness like she was. I was just holding on to the rope, hoping to not fly off into oblivion. Her boyfriend was the boat captain, so they were letting me go with them. Suddenly, I was supposed to go to a meeting, but I either wasn't dressed for it or I needed to get dressed for it. I can't really remember. I ended up being late and not making it home for Thanksgiving. I had swapped my phone with a friend's for the weekend, so no one in my family could get a hold of me. (What's with the cell phone dreams?!) They thought something was wrong with me since they couldn't get ahold of me, so they were really pissed when they heard I was okay and had just missed my chance at coming home. I started the trek to go switch my phone back but Michael Phelps was flirting with me and wouldn't let me leave. (I assume it was Michael Phelps because I saw a commercial with him in it before I went to bed.) Finally, I was able to leave, but I had to walk because I had no car. And I was wearing a pink and orange floral dress with really tall black high heels. (Because, who doesn't wear that to go out for a stroll?!) I pass a few people I know, all of whom I haven't seen in a very long time. Eventually the dream turns into me driving to get my phone and I'm driving over a really scary narrow windy bridge over lots of water. And, for some reason, I'm following a trolley. I'm going really fast and I remember thinking I should be scared because of the bridge, but I was just in a hurry to get my phone back. Then, the dream changes again, and I'm getting a piggy back ride from Phelps again. I am still in the dress and heels though. He leads me to a gas station where we pick up some snacks. (I guess I didn't care about my phone anymore!)
--I chose a few things to look up on this dream: to dream about Thanksgiving, represents togetherness, family reunions, festivities, and your sense of community. The dream is a reflection on your life and the connections that you have made. Alternatively, this dream may be a metaphor indicating that you need to thank somebody. You may be feeling indebted to someone. Consider also your own associations and traditions with Thanksgiving.
--To dream that you are crossing a bridge, signifies an important decision or a critical junction in your life. This decision will prove to be a positive change with prosperity and wealth in the horizon. Bridges represent a transitional period in your life where you will be moving on to a new stage.
--To see or wear a dress in your dream, represents a feminine outlook or feminine perspective on a situation. You are freely expressing your femininity.
--To dream that you are wearing high heels, represents femininity and glamour. You feel confident and self-assured. Alternatively, you may feel restricted and limited in your role as a female. You do not think that you can fully and freely express yourself. (That kind of contradicts the meaning of the dress, doesn't it?!)
**The third dream occurred sometime between snoozes (I have a lot of short abrupt dreams in between the alarm going off.) I was driving up to Kirksville (where I went to college) to go to Wal-Mart. (I had been to Wal-Mart earlier in the day, but I'm not sure why I had to drive over 3 hours to get to one!)

Wednesday night, 11/26/08:
**The first dream was me at my parent's house with Julianne Hough (from Dancing With the Stars, yes I watch that show!)...we are trying to irrigate the fields with these giant blue hoses. The hose itself is as big around as a large coffee can and it's thousands of feet long. When we turned on the water, we watched it inflate the hose a foot at a time. Then, it did that cliche thing of having so much pressure, the hose takes on a life of itself and starts going all over the place. We have to eventually turn the water off. I'm not sure why, but there was something about terrorists in my dream. Not pleasant.
--To see a hose in your dream, represents renewal, rejuvenation and cleansing. You need to heal those emotional wounds so that you can continue to grow as a person.
**The second quick dream involved me sitting on a couch with this guy I met at a bar and Derek Hough (yes, again from DWTS. I think I watch too much TV.). We were talking and the two guys were fighting.

Thursday night, 11/27/08:
**The first dream started with me babysitting, but I don't remember who I was babysitting. The next thing I know, I'm driving a semi truck down the road with a bunch of my friends in the back. (Sounds like a take off of "Adventures in Babysitting!") There's a small narrow alley between a fence and a restaurant and it's the only way to go. I don't think I'll fit, but my friends tell me to try it anyways. So, I start slowly down the alley, and of course, I get stuck. I have to call my dad to help back me out of the space, b/c I can't do it myself. All my friends get out of the truck and we sit on the steps outside of the restaurant to wait for my dad. Three people I know from high school (Julie, Jenny & Shanna) come out of the restaurant (they work there) and offer us some food. I had the mushroom pasta.
--To see a truck in your dream, implies that you are overworked. You may be taking on too many tasks and responsibilities that are weighing you down.
--To see an alley in your dream, suggests that you have limited options. Alternatively, it indicates that you may be sidetracked due to domestic duties and find yourself in a dilemma.
**The second dream involved me looking to buy a new house. But, this house was actually the house of my friend's mom. It's not a replica of her actual house, but in my dream, I knew it was hers. I kept finding new rooms within rooms/closet doors, etc. I remember trying to figure out where I would put all my furniture.
--To see a new house in your dream, indicates that you are entering into a new phase or new area in your life.
--To dream that you find or discover new rooms, suggests that you are developing new strengths and taking on new roles. You may be growing emotionally. Consider what you find in the discovered rooms.

Friday, 11/28/08:
**In the first dream, I was in Kirksville (where I went to college) walking around campus trying to find a particular office building. The further I walked, the less I recognized. I finally found a street I knew and found my way to the building. Once I was there, I was in some kind of go-cart trying to fit in the elevator. I was in a hurry to get to the bathroom, so I guess I ditched the go-cart at some point, because I was running around. I was running up the stairs because the elevator wasn't fast enough (too many people in line for it).
--To dream that you have difficulties walking, indicates that you are reluctant and hesitant in proceeding forward in some situation.
--To dream that you can not find the bathroom, signifies that you hare having difficulties in releasing and expressing your emotions.
**In the second dream I was at my parent's house with my sister, her husband and some of my brother's friends. There was a muddy river running in front of the house and everyone was getting ready to walk down the river barefoot. I was wearing shoes, and I didn't want to get them dirty, so I went back into the house to leave my shoes.
--To see a muddy river, indicates turmoil, tumultuous times and jealousy in your life.

Well geez, according to my dreams, I have a lack of communication, yet I've also reopened communication. I need to reevaluate my life goals, yet I'm at a place of renewal. I'm overworked with limited options, yet I also have strength. Interesting. And, for the record, these dreams are actually fairly tame. Usually they're way wackier than this. I don't make this stuff up people.

This totally cracks me up! I wish I remember what happens when I dream, but if it's anything like yours, it's messed up!
